The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) which was established by an Act of Legislation called the “Liberia Immigration Service Act of 2015”; formerly called the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN), has made a great history by appointing its first Female Deputy Commissioner for Operation. The commissioning ceremony which took place on the 17th of September 2018 in the Conference Room of the LIS ranked Col. Abigail Wesseh as the new Deputy Commissioner for Operation (302) of the Liberia Immigration Service.
It can be recalled that the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN) was established in 1955 by an Act of Legislation to enforce the Alien and Nationality Law of Liberia. The BIN Act which was amended in 2015 ushered in the term “Liberia Immigration Service”. So since 1955 (63 years), no female had ever occupied the position that Col Abigail Wesseh occupies now.
