AUGUST 31, 2018 – Senators debating House’s bill of impeachment on Thursday, August 30, 2018 identify procedural errors in the legislative instrument seeking the removal of Justice Ja’neh.
The Liberian Senate, on Thursday, had a dramatic scene, when senators debated the bill of impeachment of Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh submitted by the House of Representatives of the 54th Legislature.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed a resolution to impeach Justice Ja’neh on account of multiple offenses.
Some senators who gave their opinions on the bill of impeachment, after a reading of the bill, said there were procedural errors on the part of the House of Representatives regarding the presentation of the instrument. According to them, rule 63 which speaks about impeachment proceedings was violated.
They argued that a communication presented by the Lower House was not the entire bill of impeachment, something they could not honor, adding that such bill of impeachment could have also been accompanied by one of the members of the House of Representatives to the secretary of the Senate.
