A Liberian woman who lives in Accra, Ghana has been reportedly arrested for drug trafficking, says Citinewsroom.com. According the media outlet, the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) was the intended destination of Ms. Wolo Maikplay Margaret’s effort to smuggle cocaine, a narcotic drug, through the airport. Ms. Maikplay was given a ten-year prison sentence by the Accra High Court.

After finding Ms. Wolo Maikplay guilty on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, the court presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Mary Ekua Yanzuh further penalized her 10,000 penalty units (GH$120,000) in default and ordered her to serve an extra three years in prison.

In accordance with sections 36 and 37 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), the accused admitted guilt to two charges of attempted exporting and possession of a controlled substance without a Minister of Health license.

However, the presiding judge judged her guilty of each concurrent count based on her own plea.
On May 14, 2022, Ms. Wolo Maikplay was detained by Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) officers as she traveled by Qatar Airways from Monrovia to Bangkok, Thailand, through Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

After getting a tip from a sister security agency at Kotoka International Airport, commission officers physically searched her and discovered 30 pellets of cocaine totaling 277.2101grams under her breast and in her private part (KIA).

The panel also emphasized that it is still illegal and criminal under domestic law to possess narcotic narcotics or attempt to transport them.

Additionally, it reaffirmed its commitment to working with the necessary parties to minimize the influx and smuggling of all varieties of narcotic narcotics.
