Excel Magazine International, an accredited media house of global repute and USA based TeKay Designs partnership is poised to project the country as the new fashion, cultural and tourism hub of Africa. This platform will be utilized to attract and woo investors from various business sectors to invest in Liberia, the 5th poorest country in the world with about 85 percent of the nearly four million people living below the international poverty line.
Hon. Jeremiah C. Sulunteh (Liberian Ambassador to the USA) is the Guest Speaker at this patriotic event to be held on July 31, 2016, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 7005 Piney Branch Rd NW, Washington DC 20012. Doors will open at 4 pm. A delegation from Liberia led by the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism, and Liberia’s Tailors, Textiles, Garments and Allied Workers Union is expected to attend the event.
The fashion show will benefit KDE Disability Africa Foundation (the USA based 501C3 non-profit organization) specifically to expand tailoring workspace and establish a fashion design and sewing training program for people with disabilities in Liberia. This initiative will provide economic incentives to allow people with disabilities to earn a living through fashion skills.
The renowned Queen Of The Brides collection representing women of significant social status from various countries will be featured on the runway. TeKay Designs will also showcase their Summer 2017 Pride of Liberia collection. Hors d’oeuvres, refreshments, DJ and entertainment will be provided.
“The Liberian Fashion Ambassador award show is part of a broader initiative to promote Liberian fashion, culture, and tourism by showcasing traditional Liberian made apparel and accessories via runway shows, trade exhibitions, advertising and promotions in the US, Africa, and Europe. Historically known as kondi-gulei, the country cloth fabric is hand woven with threads from cotton farms in Liberia and is a source of Liberian nationalistic pride. We encourage designers, distributors, retailers and producers to manufacture in Liberia through established fashion production units and garment factories such as Liberia’s Tailor’s Union garment factory.” states Kimma Wreh of TeKay Designs.
According to Mr. Boniface Ihiasota, Publisher of Excel Magazine International, “The long-term goal of Excel Magazine International and TeKay Designs is for Liberia to be recognized as a fashion capital in Africa. We are introducing Excel Designer’s Direct in Liberia as a marketing and production platform for Liberian and international designers.”
