Earlier today, it was reported (here) by radio-personality, DJ Master Queen, that the President of the Republic of Liberia, George Manneh Weah has declared free education for all undergraduates, as well as all Public Universities in Liberia. Students will still be expected to pay other fees associated with registration.
Since the news broke out, some Liberians have expressed that the president has made a great move towards progress.
On the other hand, some have expressed their disappointments in the president for focusing on Universities students. Although some of the concerns expressed make lots of sense. For example, providing education for primary students would be more effective than universities students.
Also, some are also concerned about the source of fundings to uphold the already struggling universities in Monrovia.
however, we cannot take away from the fact that he’s trying, and we need to appreciate the effort. Thank you, Mr. President. As our people like to say: (Liberian voice) “We getting there”
