The Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism on yesterday the 17th September 2018 closed down some films marketers shops for selling Liberian films that did not pay before releasing their movies.
Upon this action, the film marketers have decided not to buy or sell any film made or produced in Liberia.
The Liberian films’ producers are supposed to pay to the government before releasing their films on the Liberian market. We reached out to some producers as to know the details of the closure. The producers told us “Liberian stars views” that they do not have problems with the payment, but they did not pay because marketers are releasing foreign films on the Liberian market every day without paying to the government so they too could not pay. Speaking, they claimed the foreign films and Compressed DVDs has impeded the selling of Liberian films in the country
In an interview with Liberian stars views, the Liberian film producers told us that the foreign film has been and still is the problem with Liberian films selling. When we did our investigation, we realized that the foreign season films have taken over the Liberian film market.
We also reached out to Liberian film buyers and they told us they prefer buying a compressed DVD that has over 15 to 20 films on than buy one Liberian film for the same price as the Compressed DVDs disks. We are still trying to reach out to individuals concern at the Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism but most people we have reached are not responding.
We are still following the story and investigating and we will unfold you with every development we have.
